VISIT AND DISCOVER PALAIA
From the fortress, splendid views of the medieval village …
On the ridge between the Arno and Valdera slopes, the village of Palaia is located. One of the most interesting realities of the surrounding area and of Tuscany, given the role it played in history and the diversity of the landscape. A natural and artificial environment that can be admired from the fortress, situated in a strategic position, had a predominantly defensive function. Today the structure, built on the hill of Palaia, is largely destroyed and inaccessible but it is possible to reach the place by following the nature and hiking trails located on the borders of the medieval village.
The location of the stronghold is particularly suggestive. From the place the visitor can enjoy magnificent views of the town, the medieval village and its monuments such as the church of San Andrea, the Civic Tower, the parish church of San Martino. But Palaia is also fascinating from a naturalistic point of view: there are many cultivations with vines and olive groves in the area due to the great production of wine and oil, interspersed with cypress trees and wooded areas not yet exploited by man.
