Four days of books, stories and local flavours in the heart of Palaia
From 17 to 20 September 2026, the Municipal Garden of Palaia will become a meeting place for literature, theatre, landscape and the traditions of the local area.
This is Voci tra le Foglie, the literary festival that invites readers and visitors to step beyond the pages of books and discover, through the voices of writers and the stories they tell, the spirit of a community and the beauty of its landscape.
For four days, writers, artists, children, young people and lovers of culture will gather beneath the trees of the Municipal Garden for a programme combining author talks, theatre, creative workshops, poetic traditions and tastings of local food and wine.
A festival devoted to reading, listening and imagination — and, at the same time, an invitation to discover Palaia through its stories, flavours and traditions.
The programme
Thursday, 17 September
The festival opens with institutional greetings, followed by a reserved apericena and a meeting with Lia Lambucci, marking the beginning of four days devoted to words and culture. This will be followed by an aperitif by reservation at number 3334914250 (aperitif cost €15.00 each)
Friday, 18 September
The ancient Tuscan tradition of ottava rima, a form of improvised oral poetry, meets contemporary literature in the encounters with Pilade Cantini and Stefano Tofani. The evening concludes with a complimentary tasting of local food and wine, bringing together culture and the flavours of the territory.
Saturday, 19 September
A day dedicated also to younger audiences, featuring Stefano Tofani and Simone Frasca, a creative workshop and an improvisational theatre performance by AreaMista Show. In the afternoon, writer Marco Vichi will meet the audience for another journey into the world of contemporary fiction. The day concludes with a tasting of local products.
Sunday, 20 September
The final day begins with activities for children led by Lucia Giustini, including movement workshops. Visitors wishing to discover the village and its heritage can join “Palaia Poetica”, a tour offering a different way of experiencing the town through its places, memories and words. Theatre returns in the afternoon with AreaMista Show, followed at 6.00 pm by a meeting with Piera Ventre, bringing the festival programme to a close.
Palaia, where stories meet the landscape
In Palaia, culture does not belong solely to places designed to host it. It moves through the streets and squares, follows the paths, intertwines with memory and lives within the traditions of a land shaped by the enduring encounter between nature and human presence.
Voci tra le Foglie grows from this dialogue: between the book and the landscape, the voices of writers and those of the local community, the intimate experience of reading and the convivial spirit of a festival.
The event is therefore also an invitation to discover Palaia and its surrounding hills, its villages and its local produce — allowing words to lead the way towards a deeper understanding of the territory, and allowing the territory itself to give new meaning to the stories we read and hear.
